Laura was the daughter of Jesse Ford Taylor and Ann Elizabeth Taylor. Her parents were second cousins. Laura married Ransom Eaton Gill on May 15, 1877. Tragically, she was left a widow in 1890 when her husband was murdered on his way home to Franklin County after a day of jury duty. The motive and murderer remain unknown. Laura and her children moved to Wake Co to live with her bachelor brother, "Billie", after her husband's death.
