Otto served as a Staff Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-26B "Becky" #42-95768, 441st Bomber Squadron, 320th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Wisconsin prior to the war.

He was inducted into the Army on February 10, 1943.

Otto was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-26 developed engine trouble returning from a bombing mission over Sardinia and crashed at sea during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, and the "French Croix de Guerre".
