POSS, MARILYN J., Gainesville - Marilyn J. Poss died on April 20, 2007 at the Hospice Care Center following an extended illness. She was born in Tama, South Dakota. She attended school in Sturgis, SD and later worked as a medical secretary at the Veteran Administration Hospital at Fort Meade, SD, where she met and married John Poss. Later transfers of her husband took her to many locations, including Minot, ND; Longbeach, CA; Sepulveda, CA; Iowa City, IA, and Gainesville, FL. Her outgoing and friendly personality prompted her to become a Hospitality Hostess as a means to meet new people and to greet and inform newcomers of the variety of facilities and entertainment available in the City of Gainesville. She worked in this capacity for twenty three years. She was also president of the Gainesville Newcomers Club in 1977. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, a daughter Janeen, a son Allen, a granddaughter Rachelle of Gainesville, two granddaughters Chelsea and Christina of Toana, VA, and a brother in Apex, NC. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:00AM at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 500 N.E. 16th Ave., Gainesville, Fl. with Father Roland Julien officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville, Fl. 32606
