The Ionia Standard, Friday, October 4, 1918

Ford Haight, young North Plains farmer who went to Syracuse with the Ionia county limited service men in early September, is dead from the prevailing influenza. His parents, who reside in Hubbardston, received telegraphic notice to that effect on Tuesday. They had a letter from their son last week, saying he was in hospital, but was recovering, and expected soon to be sent to Virginia. Chas. Haight, East Main street, this city, was also notified of the death of his cousin. Chandler J. Haight and Miss Essie Haight and Mrs. Frank Hoar of this city are also cousins. Deceased was married last December, and was finishing up a successful year as a joint sharer with his father on the year's crops.Ionia

Daily Sentinel Wednesday, 2 October 1918
The community was startled Friday by a telegram announcing the death of Ford Haight, a limited service man at Syracuse, N. Y. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Haight, near Matherton. When last heard from he was in the hospital, but his condition was not known to be serious. The remains are expected to reach home Saturday. He leaves a widow, his parents, a sister, an
aged grandmother and a host of friends.
