Birth: Jun. 11, 1849
Dawson County
Georgia, USA
Death: Mar. 29, 1927
Hayden Lake
Kootenai County
Idaho, USA

My second great-uncle, Alford Webster Hudlow, was the third child of the four children of William Beaver Hudlow and Mary Ann Margaret WILLIAMS Hudlow. His grandparents included Michael Hudlow and Sarah (Sally) GOODE Hudlow, along with maternal grandparents, William Williams and Jane ASH Williams.

His siblings included his only sister, Sarah, his brother, William Wright, who was my great-grandfather, and younger brother, Robert George Edmond Hudlow. They were all born in Dawson County, Georgia.

However, their parents migrated, at one point, to Howell County, Missouri. It was here that Alford met and married Rhoda Caroline GAROUTTE and my great-grandfather, William Wright married her sister, Eliza Jane GAROUTTE, the parents of my grandmother, Amanda HUDLOW Arnold.

Alford and Rhoda, who were married in 1869, were the parents of nine children, all of whom were born in Missouri, and were named, in order of birth, Markum, Laura, Martha, Beauman, Russell, Comer, Rufus, Ruben, and Effie Pearl.

Alford homesteaded one hundred and forty-seven acres in Howell County and, after about ten years, he sold this land and they went to Rockford, Washington, then back to Missouri for another two years. They then moved to Rathdrum, Idaho and, with the exception of one year spent in Oregon, they located in the vicinity of Hayden Lake, had a very comfortable home, and handled timber products in connection with general farming.

At one time, he and his brother, Robert, operated what was only the second steamboat on the river. My second great-aunt and uncle, Alford and Rhoda Caroline Hudlow lived the rest of their lives in Hayden Lake and were held in very high esteem by all their friends, neighbors, and citizens throughout the Rathdrum and Hayden Lake areas.

Alford Webster Hudlow was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rhoda.

He was very much loved and missed by his children, grandchildren, many, many family members, and a host of friends.
