OBITUARY: Don Melvin Corbett, 81, passed away Friday, June 26, 1981 in a Salt Lake hospital. Born May 25, 1900 in Smithfield, Utah to Calvin Melvin and Sarah Ann Richardson Corbett. Married Melba Salzner, May 25, 1926 in Salt Lake City.
He was a graduate of Utah State University, 1923. Joined the Geological Survey, October, 1924 as a hydraulic engineer, serving in Utah, Alabama, Maine, Texas, Michigan, and Indiana. He retired from the survey in 1961 as chief hydraulogist. He has been a consulting hydraulogist serving as a research associate for the University of Indiana water resources. Mr. Corbett was a member USU'S Bold Main Society.
In 1975 he and Mrs. Corbett established a scholarship for woman to study engineering at USU. That some year he was selected as one of five men to receive the distinguished service award from USU. On May 30, 1980 the auditorium and new engineering building at USU was dedicated as the Corbett auditorium in his honor. He returned to Salt Lake City in 1981 after living in Indianapolis, Indiana for 40 years.
Survived by his wife Melba, brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 30 at 12 noon, in the Smithfield, Utah City Cemetery. Friends may call Russons Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 2nd East Monday 7-8 pm.
