She was the daughter of Imall Mosley Butler and the late Leo Butler.
She was a teacher for the Slocum Independant School District. She graduated as valedictorian of the 1972 Class of Maypearl High School, and earned her bachelor's degree from UT Arlington. She was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by her mother, Imall Mosely Butler; her husband, Roy Mays; a daughter, one son; two sisters; and her mother-in-law, Juanita Mays of Slocum.
