Corporal Lloyd D. Stidham, of Kentucky, was the son of Andrew and Emma (Noble) Stidham. His parents divorced and when Lloyd was around 6 years old, and his father married Alpha Cornett, who raised Lloyd as her own. Lloyd had a hard life, times were tough in eastern Kentucky. He joined the Army in 1948, adding two years onto his age to do it. As a member of Company C, 65th Engineer Combat Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, his unit was one of the first to arrive in Korea. They occupied a position on Hill 22, near the Camel's Head Bend on the Kuryong River. On November 25, 1950, the Chinese Communist forces overran their position. He was declared missing in action while fighting the enemy on November 27, 1950. Lloyd's family moved from Breathitt County to Lee County in 1952, and they kept hoping that he would be returned home. His photograph remained on the living room wall and they prayed for his return. His parents died in 1999, never knowing. Lloyd's remains were recovered in 2000 and formally announced as identified in April 2009. He was buried April 13, 2009, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville. In addition to his parents and step-mother, Lloyd was preceded in death by his five siblings, Eugene, Robert, Nancy, Magellan and Winnie along with a half sister, Letha Stidham Spencer. Survivors include three half brothers, B.J. Stidham and Ronnie Stidham of Georgetown, KY and Donald Stidham of Stamping Ground, KY. Several nieces also survive. Corporal Stidham was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
