Footprints
At times I sit and ponder
The person you would be,
The many places you would go,
The awesome things you'd see.
Perhaps, as an ambassador,
You'd travel far from home
And walk the streets of Paris
Or tour ancient Rome,
Dip your toes in ocean waves
On the Pacific shore,
Or, following in Papa's steps,
Above the clouds you'd soar,
Run as an Olympian
Or only just for fun,
Pace the room and pat the back
Of your own little one.
But you will never do those things,
That ground you'll never trod
Your feet were formed for streets of gold,
Not this earthen sod.
Although you never took a step,
Your life has left its mark,
For your feet implanted firmly
In the soil of my heart.
