Barbara Leone Herron, 71, of rural Alexis died at 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born June 15, 1933 in Monmouth, the daughter of Robert Cleo and Edith (Earp) Hill. She was reared and educated in Alexis, where she graduated from Alexis High School in 1951 and then attended Western Illinois University. Barbara married Richard Herron at Norwood on June 2, 1956 and he preceded her in death on July 10, 2001. She was a homemaker and had worked at Gambles as a Secretary for a number of years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and sewing. She was a member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the women's circles and had served as Sunday School Teacher, Elder, and Trustee. Surviving is her son, Rick (Teresa) Herron of Alexis; daughter, Dicksey (Dan) Colwell of Abingdon; six grandchildren, Stephen (Tiffany) Ashby of Galesburg, Brad Herron of Alexis, Bryan Colwell of Abingdon, Scott Colwell of Abingdon, Drew Tye of Kewanee, and Erick Tye of Kewanee; two great-grandsons, Payton Adam and Mason Gage Ashby, both of Galesburg; one brother, Verne Hill of Alexis. Her parents, husband, and one daughter, Vicki Tye, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2004 at the Norwood Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Dutton. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning where her family will be present to receive friends on hour prior to the services. Memorials may be given to the Norwood Presbyterian Church.
