Mrs. Pluma L. Burkey Bowser, 75 formerly of Wayne Ave., Indiana, died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 1970, at the Church of the Brethren Home, Windber. A daughter of Jerry H. and Carriebelle Amond Learn, she was born Dec. 30, 1894, in Green Twp. A former resident of Cambria County, she had been a resident of Indiana for the past 30 years. Mrs. Bowser was a member of the Church of the Brethren of Indiana and had been active in church work, serving on the building committee and ministerial commission as well as having taught Sunday School at her church. Surviving are two sisters: Miss Mary A. Learn, Indiana; Mrs. Margaret S. Learn, South Fork; two nieces: Mrs. Bernard (Dorothy Tie) Beer and Miss Margaret R. Learn, both of Indiana, who had made their home with Mrs. Bowser; also several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Foster D. Burkey in 1936; her second husband, John A. Bowser in 1952, and a brother L. J. Learn. Friends are being received from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) at the Richard T. Bell Funeral Home, Indiana. Friends may also pay their respect at the Church of the Brethren, Rt. 286 S., on Saturday after 12 noon until the hour of services to be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Clayton Gehman will officiate and interment will be made in Greenwood, Indiana.

Mrs. Pluma Burkey of Ebensburg, and John A. Bowser of West Pike, motored to Williamsburg, Va., where they were united in marriage last Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the Burton Parish Church, the oldest church in the United States, being in continuous use since early colonial days. They were accompanied to the altar by Mr. and Mrs. G. C. McCrea of Williamsburg, formerly of Brush Valley, brother-in-law and sister-in-law of the groom by a former marriage. Mr. Bowser is employed as a salesman and is well known in Masonic and religious circles. For the past eight years he has taught the Cary Bible Class of the Methodist Church and at present is holding the position of lay leader in the church. The bride is a daughter of Jerry Learn of Pine Flats and is well known in Cambria County, where she taught in the public schools. She has been an ardent and tireless worker in the Church of the Brethren at Nanty-Glo. The Bowsers will make their home in Indiana.
