August Schmidt
Born 28th of July in West Prussia. In 1837 he went with his parents to Russia. In September 1851 he married Helena Retkowski. In 1876 they were baptized by Edward Leppke. In 1878 she died and was taken from his side. In May 1879 he married a second time with Maria Kudnick. In 1880 they left with their family to America. With his wife he lived 27 years. With his second wife he lived 29 years. The last 4 years he lived with his children, Jac(ob) Schmidt. From the first marriage 12 children were born. Of these 7 died and 5 lived. From the second marriage 7 children were born and 3 died. He was the father of 19 children, eleven died and 8 lived. He was a Grandfather of 41 living and 13 that died. He was Great Grandfather of 21; 19 lived and 2 died. He was very sick for 4 weeks. The 5th of December 9 o'clock in the morning 1912 he was relieved from his suffering. We were thankful that his last wish was fulfilled that he died in the Lord. Sunday afternoon the 8th of December the funeral started in the Gndenauer Church, Brother H. W. Lorentz gave a speech about the difference this side to Heavens sides. Then Abraham Lorentz from Oklahoma made a good speech. Brother Abraham Berg read the life's history and J. _(?) Wiebe. The mother due to illness, could not be Present. Therefore she requested the burial be in Hillsboro, KS. The children expressed their thanks for the Mother. Sunday afternoon the the 8th of December the funeral started. In the Dennaura Meeting place(church). Brother J. U. Flaming mad the first opening talk. Then H. W. Lorentz made a cutting remark that was sorrowful and then___. Then Arahaam Lowen from Oklahoma spoke some very nice word, not about this side of Heaven but especially in Heaven.The obituary was in German and was translated to English.
