Alta Spencer
July 13, 1922 November 15, 2011
Our dear mother, Alta Spencer peacefully left this world on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Alta was born on July 13, 1922 at her grandparent's home, in Randolph, Utah to Melvin and Lila Jackson. Her early childhood was spent at the family ranch in Randolph.
Her family moved to West Ogden, Utah where she attended Weber County Schools, graduating from Weber High School.
The family later moved to Eden, Utah.
Alta loved to roller skate at the Berthana Roller Rink, and one night she met a handsome young man named Preston
Spencer. They skated their way into an everlasting love, and married in the Manti, Utah Temple on November 28th, 1941.
They welcomed their first son, Gary just before Preston left on his first assignment in the Air Force, during World War II. Alta and Gary joined Preston while he was stationed in California, and later Oregon and Illinois.
After the war, Alta and Preston settled in Aurora, Utah, where two more sons, Stephen and Rod joined their family. They later moved to Eden, Utah, where they were blessed with a daughter, Karla.
Alta was a passionate member of the LDS faith, serving throughout her life in a variety of church positions. One of the cherished times of her life was when she and Preston were ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple.
Mom worked in food services her entire life, working for Weber County Schools, the Ogden Temple, and the Hearthside in Eden. She was famous for her incredible cooking skills, and was especially well known for her cinnamon twists, cream pies and twice baked potatoes.
After their retirement, Alta and Preston were "snowbirds" traveling to Southern Utah, Nevada, and California during the winter months. They also loved their annual trip to Fish lake, with family and friends.
She is survived by sons, Gary (Suzanne), Stephen (Ann) and Rod (Barb) Spencer and a daughter Karla
(Rick) Allen. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and two sisters,
Melvina Simmons and Patricia Younger.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
The family expresses a special thank you to the North Ogden 24th Ward, Autumn Rose Homecare, and a Granddaughter, Amy Spencer.
