Eli Davis was born in either Pennsylvania or Ohio in about 1802, the son of Enos Davis (1767-1841) and Hannah Marshall (1775-1857).
In about 1833, he married Mary Barnet, with whom he had two children: George, Sarah (who may have died young). In about 1838, he married Mary Ann Haddock (1812-1881) most likely in Indiana or Missouri. Eli and Mary had at least three children between 1842 and 1852: Enos, Sarah, and Martha.
Sometime following the birth of their son Enos, Eli moved his family to Oregon, living in what became Washington County by 1850. They remained in Washington County for the rest of their lives, where Eli was a farmer.
