Bessie Earlene McDuffee Cope

Bessie Earlene McDuffee Cope, 80, of Amarillo died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Jimmy Daniel officiating.

Mrs. Cope was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jess Thomas Woodard in Garden Valley, Childress County, on Oct. 2, 1924. The family later moved to Roberson, where she graduated from high school. She married Lee Earl McDuffee in Tucumcari, N.M., in June 1950. She was widowed in 1953, raising her three children with the tremendous help of her family. Her family was her primary purpose, joy and focus, with a love of music and playing piano a blessed hobby. She married James Cope in 1968. She retired from Panhandle Laundry in 1990. She was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church.
The family wishes a special thanks be given to the TPMHR staff and Dr. Michael Jenkins for all of their dedication and help.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; a grandson, Garrett McDuffee; three brothers, Bill Woodard, John Woodard and J.T. Woodard; and four sisters, Stella Moates, Bertha Williams, Grace Daniel and Betty Jo Carpenter.

Survivors include a son, Eddie McDuffee and wife, Jacquelyn, of Amarillo; two daughters, Patricia Brewer and husband, Jim, and Sharon Edwards and husband, Tony, all of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Shannon Houchin and husband, Baeron, Jason McDuffee, Melanie McDuffee, Rachel Hulett and husband, James, Annette McDuffee, Angella McDuffee, Kara Baker and husband, Josh, and Joshua Brewer; two stepgrandsons, Daniel Edwards and Clint Edwards; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Hutton Baker and Peyton James Hulett; three brothers, Gene Woodard and wife, Noreen, Ray Woodard and Earl Woodard and wife, Juanell; two sisters, Pearl Carpenter and husband, Willard, and Ruth Caddell; two sisters-in-law, Mary Woodard and Noreen Woodard; and numerous beloved nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

The family suggests memorials be to Olivia's Angels, in care of BSA Hospice P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
