Lorraine Alford Danbery died Nov. 4, 2008.
Born May 15, 1930, in Ivington, Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Jack Alford and Violet Tawney Alford. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Wanda, and brother, Jack Jr. Lorraine was the last of her immediate family.
During her growing up years, she was a tomboy. She could outride, outshoot and usually "whip" all those who would take her on. As an accomplished equestrian, she loved horses. She also loved dogs and those that came to live with her were treated as members of the family.
Lorraine lived the majority of her life in Cannelton, and was a faithful member of the Carbondale Baptist Church.
The tomboy grew into a beautiful woman with lovely blue eyes. Her adult life was spent rearing her children.
After they left home, she became very active in her church. When Carbondale Baptist Church decided to build a new church, members of the church began a major fundraising campaign. The women of the church were very instrumental in the completion of the new church. The church steeple was donated in honor of Lorraine's mother and father. She, along with other members of the church, established a fund to help those who fell upon hard times. A great number in the community were helped.
She will be loved and missed forever.
Surviving: her husband of 62 years, Earl (Brother) Danbery Jr.; daughters, Sharon D. Griffith and Beverly Danbery Rosewell; sons, Rodney, Randy and Rick Danbery; son-in-law, Roger Griffith; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rodney (Patrizia) Danbery; granddaughter, Angela Danbery; grandsons, Travis Griffith and his wife, Allyson, Brian Rosewell and his wife, Rene', Douglas, Cody and Garrett Danbery; and her church family.
Service was Nov. 7 at Carbondale Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Eagle officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
Arrangements by O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery.
