Lillie was loved by all who knew her.
Lillie was the daughter of the late Ollie and Rose Curtis of Chaptico, MD, and sister of Willie Curtis and Mary [Countiss].
She received her education at Cross Roads School and came to Baltimore in January, 1930. She worked for several families, including the home of James Henry ("Harry") Riefle and Florence Riefle, in Homeland for many years, where she was considered a beloved and an integral part of the Riefle household.
In the 1930's, Florence Elizabeth Riefle Bahr (daughter of James Henry and Florence Riefle) painted two portraits of Lillie [see (damaged) portrait].
Lillie became a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and joined the Ladies Auxiliary #165 Knights of St. John in 1932 at the age of 27. She also was an active member of The Sodality of Our Lady.
On May 5, 1947, Lillie married Berline Bailey and they were married 36 years until his death in 1983.
Lillie loved the Lord and was a faith-filled Christian. When I was a child, Lillie was always a kind friend and gentle confidante - my idea of a living witness of Jesus. She would be the first person we all wanted to greet and hang out with during our visit to grandmother Riefle's home. And she was the best cook the Riefle grandchildren ever knew.
I remember what a privilege it was for me to pray with her when she was hospitalized a week or so before she passed.
According to burial records, Lillie was not buried with her husband.
