She was one of the first people at the Mayo clinic to receive heart surgery. Type of surgery unknown at this time. At the end of May 1954, she received the surgery, but passed away on June 7, 1954. She left behind a husband, Charles Odell Atkinson, and a six year old daughter, Nancy (my mother).
