John H. Long, Jr., passed away on September 18, 2010. He was born in Jacksonville on September 1, 1943 and is a lifelong resident of Mandarin. John served in the Air Force and then returned to live out his days in Mandarin. John retired from Bellsouth after 35 years of service and he was proud of his accomplishments in his years there. John was also penned with the name of "Chainsaw" by his closest friends.
His love of the outdoors was only exceeded by his love for his wife of 47 years, Fran. Together after retirement they traveled over the southeast to make countless friends at NASCAR races. Their love and marriage is a shining example to all that they knew.
He is preceded in death by his father, John H. Long (also from Mandarin) and mother Ada E. Long, and Aunt Winnie Wilkerson.
He is survived by his loving wife Frances M. Long and sister Linda McCraney. His legacy of children includes; Jeanne L. Davis with Glen Davis and 3 granddaughters, Hunter, Hayden, Heather; son John H. Long III with Alicia [Shuman], 2 grandchildren, Jessica and John IV; son Joel N. Long with Christie, 3 granddaughters, Codi, Conner, Carson.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, September 21st in Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, September 22nd in Mandarin Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Davis as Officiant.
For those who wish to send a contribution in lieu of flowers, a trust account will be set up for John's grandchildren's college fund.
