MEMORIAL IN PLACE: A great leader & diplomat and lawyer in Cherokee history; born in the Cherokee Nation. Asst. Chief of the Cherokee Nation. A Colonel in the Civil War, he was an officer under Genl.Stand Watie's Cherokee Mounted Volunteers regiment command; captured at the Battle of Pea Ridge, he was soon released and continued to fight for the CSA. Married(1)Sarah McNair; parents of Martha Caroline(Lewis); Mary E.(Chief J.Harris); & Namie Adair. Marr(2)Sue McIntosh Drew; parents of Dora Scott Adair.
