Oscar was the son of William Henry Dake and Lavinia Mae Hembree.

He was first married to Ima Lee Douglas and fathered two daughters, Stella Faye and Wanda Mae. He later married Marie Hinkson who had two daughters, Beverly and Cheryl.

He enlisted in the military 21 May 1942 and retired as a Senior Master Sargeant after 23 years of service in the United States Air Force.
