SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
William Bright was the son of James Nelson and Sally (Platt) Bright.
Enlisted June 28, 1898 at Keokuk, Iowa. Assigned to Company "H", 50th Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Discharged November 30, 1898 at Des Moines, Iowa with rank of Private. He was awarded a pension on Certificate 2,742,904.

Spanish War Veteran Bright Dies - William Bright, 86, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died Wednesday at Washington Veterans home, Retsil, after ailing for some time.
Born in Indiana Nov. 3, 1876, Mr. Bright served in the army during the Spanish-American war. Following the war he moved to Oregon, and later to Clark county in this state. He married Elma Brigham in Vancouver Oct. 7, 1929.
The couple made its home in Portland and Dee, Ore., until 1938, when they moved to Richfield (Clark county). They resided there until entering the veterans home in 1960. Mr. Bright was a farmer most of his life.
He was a member of the McKinley camp, U.S. War Veterans at Retsil.
Survivors include his wife at the veterans home, a step-son, Chester Brigham in Battleground (Clark county), and a nephew and niece in Kansas.
The funeral wil be at 1:30 p.m. Monday under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist funeral home at the Washington Veterans home, followed by burial in the veterans home cemetery.
