Commemorates the shooting death of a black-and-tan hound named Old Drum and a subsequent series of trials for monetary damages which culminated in the dog owner's 1870 victory and lawyer (later Senator) George Graham Vest's most memorable speech. Each of the five lawyers at this trial were later prominent figures: Missouri Governor T. T. Crittenden, US Senators Francis M. Cockrell, and Vest, Wabash Railroad President W. H. Blodgett, and US Congressman and Federal Judge J. F. Phillips.
