SALEM - Anna Irene DeJane, 92, of 250 Continental Drive, Salem, Ohio, formerly of West State Street and Lincoln Place, Salem, died at 9:54 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at the Essex of Salem II.
She was born July 28, 1918 in Columbiana, Ohio, the daughter of the late Phillip and Stella Irene (Hoffield) Hartman.
Before her retirement, Anna had been employed at Endres Florist, Theiss-Columbiana Floral and Paris Cleaners.
She was a State Jury Commissioner for 20 plus years. Anna was a 1936 graduate of Fairfield Centralize High School and a member of the American Legion 40/8 in Columbiana. She served as District President and on State Board for 2 years serving on many different committees. She was a camp counselor and attended Buckeye Girls State for 22 years as a counselor. She served a number of years on the Salem Bowling Association as an officer and board member, was a Junior Bowling Instructor and was active in Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls for 17 years.
As an active member of the Democratic Party, Anna served as chairman for many years in Salem. She also served as both Lady Democratic Chairlady and as Secretary for many years in the County Democratic Party along with receiving the Outstanding Democrat of Salem Award and the Outstanding Democrat Award of Columbiana County.
Her husband, Myron "Mike" DeJane, whom she married July 2, 1939, preceded her in death March 29, 1994. Five brothers, George, Phil, Ralph, Elmer "Curly" and William Hartman and a sister, Elsie Millslagle also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" (Michael) Fromm of Salem; a grandson, Michael Fromm of Salem; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Crissey of Salem; a great great-grandson, Asher Crissey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Texas, Kansas City and Pittsburgh.
Burial will be at Hope Cemetery.
