Harlan Meyer
was born June 16, 1921 to Chris and Carrie (Christensen) Meyer on the family farm in Diamond Lake Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota. He was baptized at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church of rural Lake Benton, Minnesota. He attended country school District #67 through the eighth grade, and then worked on the family farm. In 1942 he was drafted into the United States Army. He was a parts clerk in Germany, serving in World War II in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was honorably discharged on February 18, 1946 and returned to the Meyer dairy farm near Lake Benton. On August 29, 1947 he married Geraldine Bauman at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with ten children and 59 years of life together. They farmed for 41 years, retiring in 1987. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing cards, gardening, and caretaking at Diamond Lake Church and Grace Lutheran Church, Lake Benton. In November 1995, Harlan had a stroke. On March 19, 2007 he became ill. After a time at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, he was transferred to Hendricks Hospital on March 30, where he died on May 5, 2007 at the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

Harlan was a member of Diamond Lake Lutheran Church, then Grace Lutheran Church, and had served on the church council. He was a member of Henry Sollie American Legion Post #10 in Lake Benton for over 50 years, and served on the Honor Squad for many years. He was also a member of the Lake Benton Sportsmans Club. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family.

Harlan is lovingly remembered by his wife, Geraldine of Lake Benton; nine children: Kathleen Nordmeyer and her husband Steve of Lake Benton, Barbara Prosch and her friend Steve Holmlund of Lake Benton, Caroline Otto and her husband Michael of Nixa, Missouri, Melvin Meyer of Lake Benton, Allan Meyer and his wife Anne of Zumbro Falls, Minnesota, Rita Stueven and her husband Desmond of Lake Benton, Mary Kerkaert and her husband Donald of Windom, Minnesota, Susan Lozinski and her husband Dale of Canby, Minnesota, and Sandra Lacek and her husband David of Ivanhoe, Minnesota; 25 Grandchildren; 18 Great-Grandchildren; three sisters: Naomi (Robert) Bauman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marian Johnson of Richmond, California, and Shirley Darnell of Sioux Falls; two sisters-in-law: Faye Meyer of Lake Benton, and Marjorie Meyer of Tyler, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Lou Meyer; two grandsons: Chad Nordmeyer and Robert Otto; his parents; and two brothers, Marvin and Ivan Meyer.
