Levi Shaffer was born about 1839 in Gilboa, New York. His parents were Peter and Polly Shaffer. Both born in New York. On August 23 1862 at the age of 23 Levi enlisted in civil war. He was mustered in on September 23 1862 as private Co, I 134th . Levi was killed in action, July 20, 1864, at Peach Tree Creek, Georgia. It is unlikely that his family ever saw him after he left for war.
