Deborah originally from Tucker, OR died after a roadside bomb exploded Monday near her Humvee east of Baghdad. She was working for DynCorp International in Iraq for about two months as an international police liaison officer. In that capacity, she mentored and advised Iraqi police officers who had completed their initial training. Deborah had been with the Marion County (OR) Sheriff's Department and served as a deputy sheriff. She held assignments in Patrol and Criminal Investigations; an instructor teaching about crime scene investigations, crimes against persons, and interviews and interrogations; and she served as a mentor and adviser to recruits. She had also been appointed to the board of directors of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training for the State of Oregon. She graduated from McNary High School and Chemeketa Community College. She is survived by her father and stepmother, Raymond and Mildred Klecker of Turner; two sisters, Chris Klecker of Lincoln City and Caren Klecker of Gig Harbor, Wash., and their families; and her brother, Greg Klecker of Bend and his family. Her mother, Patricia Klecker, preceded her in death. She was 51.
Many police officers in patrol cars and on motorcycles, drove to the Salem Evangelical Church on Locust Street for Deborah's funeral service.
