Athlete. A Freestyle Skiier, she was her sport's public face over the last decade of her life. An Ontario native who later resided in Whistler, British Columbia, Sarah took to the slopes early and first came to prominence when she was named ESPN's 2001 female skiier of the year. A tireless campaigner for the inclusion of Freestyle Skiing into the Olympics, she captured a Gold Medal in the Halfpipe at the 2005 FIS Freestyle World Skiing Championships and that same year earned Silver in the Superpipe at the X-Games. Sarah placed 91st. on "FHM" magazine's 2006 list of the world's sexiest women, received a 2007 ESPY Award as Female Action Athlete of the Year, and also in 2007 took Gold in the Superpipe at the X-Games. She repeated her Gold Medal performance in the 2008, 2009, and 2011 X-Games and was finally to see the IOC announce that Freestyle Skiing would be part of the 2014 Olympiad. Sarah died of head injuries sustained on a January 10, 2012, Superpipe training run at Park City, Utah. (bio by: Bob Hufford)
