William Carver
Birth: Sep. 12, 1868
Death: Apr. 2, 1901

Western Frontier Outlaw. Born in Coryell County, Texas in about 1868, as a young man he became a cowboy, married and after his wife's death became an outlaw. In 1896, he carried out several robberies with Sam Ketchum and Tom Ketchum. After a failed train robbery in New Mexico, he fed to Utah and joined the gang known as the Wild Bunch, which included Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, Ben Kilpatrick and Harvey Logan. In August 1900, Carver with the Wild Bunch, held up the Union Pacific train in Tiptan, Wyoming, followed by the hold up of the First National Bank of Winnemucca, Nevada in September, 1900. In early 1901, he with the gang robbed $65,000 from the Great Northern train line near Wagner, Montana. With the Wild Bunch being wanted and pursued across the mid-western states, he decided to leave the gang to head south. On April 2, 1901, Sheriff Elijah Briant with his deputies, ambushed Carver at Sonora, Texas and died from his wounds. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
