Fritz was born near Versmold Westphalia to Franz Baumhoefer and Agnette (Paul-Hollmann). He was one of 3 brothers and 2 sisters who immigrated to Franklin County Missouri. Fritz and his 2 brothers Henry and William came over in 1866 to avoid conscription in the Prussian army. After Franz's death Johanna Katherine and Francisca Charlotte and their mother Agnette came to Missouri arriving November 1867.

In 1868 Fritz married Louisa Meyer. Fritz's obit lists her name as Werner, but more reliable documents use the Meyer name (see photos). Together they had five children that all died except for Gustav. Louisa died in 1879 and Fritz married Caroline (Fedewald) Horstmann in 1880. Caroline was widowed from Charles Horstmann by whom she had six children, Mary, Amelia, Charles, George, Edwin, and Anna.

The author, Doug Wilke, is well aware that the death certificates for Johanna and Fritz's brothers Henry and William list a maiden name for their mother as a Horstmann. This is actually the surname of the wife of brother Fritz from her first marriage. I cannot explain the discrepancy as of yet. I have too much evidence for the Paul-Hollmann name. See letter in Photos. Also note some minor errors in William Wilke's bio which I have corrected through ancestry research.
