Much of the early life of the deceased remains unknown. He was the son of Alexander Swarthout and was born on March 17, 1847, but his mother's name is unknown. He was born in Rensselaerville. While living in this vicinity he followed the carpenter trade, and was widely known and made many friends. He was married twice and his second wife, the former Margaret Rider, passed away about two years ago. A brother, George, and the daughter at whose home he died, survive.
Funeral services will be held at his late home near Ferndale, at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon and he will be buried in the Liberty cemetery."
