Bud graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in 1948. He attended the University of Maryland and graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's of science in Industrial Management and a commission in the United States Air Force. He earned his pilot wings through the Air Force training program in 1956. He flew heavy transports (C-124's) for several years. In 1965, he attended the Defense Intelligence School in Washington, D.C. He was assigned to the 10th Tactical Reconnaissance unit in England. After three years, in England, he was assigned to Vietnam in 1970 and was an ALO FAC in II Corps flying the O-2. Bud was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star. His final assignment was to the Tactical Air Command, Intelligence at Langley Air Force Base. After 20 years of service, he retired from the United States Air Force in May of 1975. After retirement, he took up blue water sailing to Bermuda, the Windward & Leeward Islands, which included a transatlantic crossing. Bud was a member of the Hampton Yacht Club, Poquoson Exchange Club, National Maritime Historical Society, and a docent for the Mariners' Museum from 1994 to present.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, George Leonard and Jessie Williams Naramore; and his former wife, Diane L. Beaven.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol Naramore; four sons, William W. Naramore and wife, Sharon, Robert R. Naramore and wife, Chris, Steve Yakshe and wife, Cyndi, and Ron Yakshe and wife, Nancy; a daughter, Becky Hoback and husband, Billy; 10 grandchildren, Jason Naramore, Garrett Yakshe, Justin Naramore, Spenser Yakshe, Logan Naramore, Dillon Yakshe, Jessica Hoback, Eric Souza, Kendall Yakshe, Julia Hoback; a great- grandchild, Simone Souza; a sister, Margaret Hopeman; and a brother-in-law, Warren Hopeman.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, followed by a visitation with family and friends. A reception will follow after the funeral and visitation at the Hampton Yacht Club, Hampton. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
