Walter L. "Pete" Callison, 81, of Yates Center, Kansas died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at St. Luke's Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born March 7, 1928, in Hutchison, Kansas, the son of Cloud Elisha and Lillian Ruth (Payne) Callison.

On Oct. 27, 1947, he married Clarine Grace Keller. She died June 25, 2009.

He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1965.

In 1966 he entered the ministry, pastoring in Baptist, and later Methodist, churches. In 1990, the couple retired in Yates Center.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Yates Center.

He is survived by four sons, Larry Callison and wife Phillis, Miami, OK, John Callison and wife Linda, Joplin, MO, Winford Callison and wife Raylene, Cabot, AR, and Leon Leonard and wife Hope, Rogers, AR; a daughter, Patty Gottschalk and husband Robbie, Ozark, MO; a great-uncle, Ed Callison, Wichita, KS; a brother, Bob, and wife Bertie, Mount Vernon, IL; a sister, Edna Scoggans, Mount Sterling, IL; grandchildren, Allen Callison and wife Aletha, Coahoma, TX, Tina Morgan, Miami, OK, Lee Lofton, Commerce, OK, Grace McManus and husband James, Cassville, MO, Brad Callison and wife Renee, Mesa, AZ, Victoria Callison, Cabot, AR, LaTricia Sparks and fiance Derek King, Wichita, KS, Charles Sparks and wife Karina, Houston, TX, Christina Leonard, Bentonville, AR, and Leslie Leonard, Rogers, AR; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Gene and John Austin, died earlier.

He donated his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research.

Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church of Yates Center or the Alzheimer's Association.

McGilley Midtown Chapel of Kansas City, Missouri, is in charge of arrangements.
