Ray County Presiding Commissioner Jeff "Puff" Adams dies from apparent heart attack.
Ray County Presiding County Commissioner Jeff "Puff" Adams, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Ray County Memorial Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack during church services at Richmond Faith Lutheran Church. Adams, a lifelong resident of Richmond, was first elected as Ray County Presiding Commissioner in 2002.
Jeff was born Nov. 27, 1957, in Richmond, the son of Charles Ray and Carlo Jean (Seward) Adams. He married Diana Lynne Essig of Richmond on Aug. 25, 1978. She survives of the home.
Jeff was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Richmond, where he was the Head Elder of the Church.
He was a 1976 graduate of Richmond High School. He played on and sponsored, Puff's 1 Men's Softball Team. He was a lifetime member of the Richmond All Sports Club and a lifelong supporter of Spartan Athletics. He was a member of the Spartan Football Chain Gang for a number of years and painted the Spartan Football Field since 1990. He was past president of the Richmond Little League Baseball Program. He served as the 2008 Grand Marshall of the Richmond Spartan Homecoming Parade. He coached several of Richmond's Parks and Recreation girls' softball teams.
In addition to his duties as Ray County Presiding Commissioner, he served on the Mid-America Regional Council for Presiding Commissioners Board, the Ray County 911 Board, the Ray County Rural Fire Department Board, and the Ray County Planning and Zoning Board. He was past president and served on the Shirkey Golf Club Board, and was very active on the Club House Building Association.
Jeff was co-owner of Adams and Howell Floor Covering in Richmond.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother Jeanie Adams of Richmond; 2 daughters, Courtney Lynne Adams and Natalie Rae Adams of the home; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Billy Daugherty, Regina and Phil Persell, and Angela and Chuck Hambrick, all of Richmond; one granddaughter; mother-in-law Mary Beth Payne of Richmond; sister-in-law Janet Hessenflow of Gladstone; and many other relatives.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Charles (Charlie) Ray Adams.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Richmond High School Athletics or to the Jeffery R. Adams Memorial Fund.
Funeral services: August 26, at Faith Lutheran Church in Richmond, with burial in Richmond Memory Gardens.
