US Congressman. He was educated at England's Cambridge University and studied law under US Attorney General Edmund Randolph in Philadelphia. Bryan studied under Randolph at the same time as future US Senator John Randolph, with whom he shared a room, and with whom he remained on friendly terms. In 1802 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democratic-Republican and served one full term and part of another, 1803 to 1806, gaining a reputation as an opponent of the Yazoo Land Frauds that involved several prominent Georgians. Bryan resigned soon after his 1805 marriage so he could return to Georgia and start a family. After leaving Congress he managed his Wilmington Island plantation, "Nonchalance", where he died suddenly after a brief illness.
