FPC US ARMY, WORLD WAR II

WILBUR EDGAR KUMPE, 101, began eternal life with his Heavenly Father on January 6, 2013. Born February 6, 1911, to Effie Leona (nee Pritchard) and Christopher C. Kumpe, near Little Rock, AR, he is survived by his devoted wife, Maycle (nee Truelove) Kumpe; daughter, Mary Lee (Rev. Stephen) Jacobson of Bartlett; and son, William (Karen) Kumpe of St. Louis, MO; six grandchildren, Brittany (David) Matlock, Daniel and Laura Hogberg, Brooksey (Lester) Mead, David and Timothy Jacobson, as well as five great-grandchildren, Nathan, Carson, Blake, Lexi Beth and Holden; one brother and one sister, Louis and Lola Kumpe of Mabelvale, AR; sister-in-law, Vivian (Dr. Charles) Kendrick and many nieces and nephews; great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John Otto Kumpe, Henry Kumpe, Bertie Dollins, and James Kumpe. Mr. Kumpe was a charter member of the Olive Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Mabelvale, AR and a longtime member of Frayser Baptist Church. He served in the Army during WWII; earned a degree in science from the University of Central Arkansas, taught high school agriculture in Beebe and DeWitt, AR; served as a minister, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service at the age of 70. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Road. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 9 a.m., Thursday, January 10. Interment will follow in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
