SUMMERVILLE - John Andrew "Jack" Girgan, 68, of Summerville, widow of Katherine Girgan, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Canaberry Nursing Facility, Phoenix City, Alabama. Graveside service will be held Friday, October 14, 2011 at 1 o'clock at Beaufort National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Timrod Library of Summerville, 217 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483. Jack was born August 6, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey, son of the late John H. Girgan and Susan Able Girgan.

He was a graduate of Kearny High School, Kearny, NJ and received his Associates Degree in Engineering from Memphis State.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving as Master Chief. After serving in the military, he worked at Life Cycle Engineering as a machinist and later retired from Machinist, Inc.

He enjoyed traveling and fishing. He is survived by his one daughter and one son: Amy Cook (David) of Columbus, Georgia and John W. Girgan (Wendy) of Summerville, 3 grandchildren: Mary and Maggie Cook both of Columbus, Georgia and Catherine Girgan of Summerville and one brother: William Girgan of Easton, Pa.
