Levi was born between 1780 & 1785. By 1820, he was living in Wayne County, Indiana with 5 children and no wife. In 1830, he was again listed in Wayne Co. with 6 children and a wife.
It is documented in Kosciusko County History books that he arrived in that county, bought land in what is now Leesburg and ran a water mill on Turkey Creek (on Levi Lee Road) with his sons. The grinding stones from that mill are displayed on a historical marker on the main street of Leesburg.
He sold lots in the town named for him & held the first session of court in his home.
It is stated in Mr. Waldo Adams notes on Levi Lee (from Koscuisko County Historical Society) that Levi returned to Wayne Co. to marry (third) Sophia Holmes on January 7,1836. Her sister, Lucinda, had married Henry, his son, on January 9, 1834. (These marriages are documented in the Wayne County, IN early marriage records.)
There were doctor bills for 1839 for Levi & his wife, whom the Kosciusko Historical Society members believe are buried in the old section of the Leesburg Cemetery, in unmarked graves. Henry contributed to the founding of that cemetery ca:1838/39.
The probate papers name "Henry Lee, Jehu Lee, Thomas Harper Jr, & Anna Harper his wife, Joseph McConnell & Edith McConnell his wife, Elias Cain & Elizabeth Cain his wife, Martha Ann Lee and Elihu Lee Heirs at Law of Levi Lee deceased." Also stated is that "Levi Lee died heretofore to wit on the 17th day of December 1839" in Kosciusko County, Indiana.
