When her husband died of small pox at 38, he left little property, and in the First Church cash book is recorded 2 Nov 1679, the contribution of £6, 19s, 4d to his family, "they being in a low condition, they being visited by the small pox and under many wants." And the Selectmen of Cambridge were "ordered to dispose of ye children of Jno Gibson" by using a portion of his estate to put "them forth to service" by which was probably meant to attain apprenticeships for them (since simply sending them out to be household servants would not have cost anything.)

The family was not left entirely without prospects though. According to the proprietors' records of 1683, the heirs of John Gibson were allotted 20 acres in the ninth squadron, 'beyond the 8 Mile Line' as well as the rights to three commons, which indicates that they may have had livestock.

In addition to the two children listed, John and Rebecca Gibson also had Martha (possibly the one who married Samuel Rolf in Woburn on 14 Jan 1698/9) and Mary who was "of Stow" when she married Nathaniel Gates on 17 Oct 1700 in Concord, Massachusetts. (Although the records have Mary's name as Gilson.)

Please note that in records, the surname Errington can also be found spelled Arrington and Harrington. And Gibson can be found spelled Gipson (as it is on her husband's gravestone.)
