He has been confused with a nephew of the same name, b. 1740, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War in Captain John Stone's Sixth Company, Second Battalion, of the Lancaster County Militia, listed in the Eighth Class. (Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume VII, p. 180)
This nephew also appears on the Valley Forge rolls (number PA17430) as serving in Muhlenberg's Brigade, German Regiment.
Philip (b. 1713) qualifies as a patriot of the American Revolution because he paid a supply tax in Berks County in 1779 "for raising the supplies." He's listed in Bethel Township as owning 200 acress, 4 horses, 4 cattle, and taxed "3,200." (Pennsylvania Archives, Third Series, Vol. XVIII, p. 208) The DAR placed a flag at his grave. A member of the Sons of the American Revolution who claimed Philip Lorentz Hautz as his patriot ancestor for a supplemental membership was Larry Patrick Cornwell, 138085.
His will was written in German and dated May 17, 1787, at Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. It was probated on Dec 13, 1788. A copy of the English translation was filed with the will. The first page states, "Translation of sd Will of Philip Lorentz Hautz Decd. . ."
"Since old age has put me, Philip Lorentz Hautz, living in Bethel Township, Berks County, in mind of my departure out of this world into Eternity, so I have by healthy days and with due consideration, got my Testament and last Will wrote down how it shall be held after my departure out of this world to Eternity with me and my Heirs. I recommend my Soul in the hands of God, and my Body to the Earth, in hopes of happy resurrection.
"As touching my worldly Estate I will and order that my Widow during her life shall have the new house wherein we now dwell and also shall also have all power therein, further she shall have a right to take of all that grows in the garden, also of all fruit, apples, etc., also Potatoes, Turnips, etc., as much or many as she pleases and wants. The Possessor of the Plantation shall also give to her yearly, two Barrels of Cyder, fifteen gallon of whiskey, twelve Bushels of wheat and three bushels of Rye, eighty Pounds of Pork and forty Pounds of Beef; further she shall have a right to take the said Beef from any part of the whole where she pleases,
"She shall also have yearly ten Pound of good hatcheled flax, also ten # of hatcheled hemp, twenty Pounds of good flaxen tow, eight Pounds of good wool, two pair of new shoes, also hens and eggs as many as she pleases and wants; and to bring the grain in the Mill and the Meal thereof in the house; also good wood as much as she wants and made fit for the stove and bake-oven, delivered to the house.
"She shall also have a right to take a cow every half year and to have it in use, and put her milk in the spring house or cellar, and the cow shall summer and winter be fed with the other cows, though the cows shall be the owner's of the Place. Immediately after my Death shall be given my widow, fifty pounds in gold or silver and of all house furniture she shall take what she Pleases and Wants.
"Secondly, as touching my plantation whereon I now now dwell and my Widow her dwelling place has, so shall my son Wendel Hautz have the same together with the forty two acres and the mountain land for him and his Heirs (and Heirs) forever, for the sum of seven hundred and fifty Pounds gold or silver, say for seven hundred and fifty Pounds, whereby he shall also be bound to deliver to his mother, during her life the above reservations, but as touching the paying after deducting his inheritance.
"So shall my son Wendel pay to my Grand-Daughter Catherine Gunckel as soon as she is twenty one years old, eighty pounds in gold or silver and when my son Wendel has deducted as much inheritance as one of my other children has, then he shall pay five years after my Death, yearly seventy Pounds, among my other children, and of these seventy Pounds my son Wendel shall not Hand in share, but if my Widow should die before the said five years are expired, then my son Wendel shall begin five weeks after her death to pay the seventy Pounds in gold or silver.
"Further the one hundred pounds which I had lent to my son-in-law Leonard Gunckel, I will that the same one hundred Pounds, with the interest, my grand Daughter Catherine Gunckel shall have when she is twenty one years old and these one hundred and eighty Pounds the said Catherine Gunckel shall have of my estate and no more and receiving this money she shall give a release to my Estate.
"Further is my will that my son Christian Hautz for his first Birthright Immediately after my Decease the Sum of five Pounds, and then be in equal shares with my other children, further is my will that the Plantation in Pinegrove Township whereon my son Baltzer Hautz Lives, my son Baltzer shall have the same immediately after my Death for the sum of one hundred and fifty Pounds in gold or silver, to him and his Heirs (and Heirs) to do with the same according to their pleasure and shall have it in the same right and authority as I have it.
"further it is my will that none of my children shall inherit anything until they have signed releases to my sons Baltzer and Wendel for the Law.
"Lastly, it is my will that no Body shall undertake to make or do anthing again this my last will, so that everything be rightly and duly executed, as it is with due care plainly wriote down according to my will. Philip Lorentz Hautz was born Sep 10, 1713 in Hassloch, Pfalz, Bavaria and died Oct 22, 1788 in Berks County, Pennsylvania at the age of 75.
He was baptized on Sep 11, 1715 and was christened Philip Alfonso Lorenzo De Hautz. His sponsor was Philip Lorentz Hautz, son of George Frederich Hautz.
He married Anna Eva Walborn about 1740 in Bethel Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Christian Wilhelm Walborn and Catharina Elisabetha Batdorf. She was born in 1720 in Shoharie, Albany, New York and died on Oct 22, 1788 about the age of 68.
He was only two years old when his mother died, and was orphaned at ten.
Philip Lorentz Hautz emigrated on the Friendship, commanded by Henry Beech, which sailed from Rotterdam, Holland and Dover, England. The Friendship landed at the port of Philadelphia on Sep 20, 1738. He settled in Bethel Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania near his brother Johann Philip, and sister Juliana Fusser, who had arrived eight years earlier on the ship Thistle. They lived the rest of their lives there, not far over the Berks-Lebanon County line from Hamlin.
Philip Lorentz Hautz was a farmer, miller, and distiller. He owned land on what is now Frederickburg, Pennsylvania.
Berks County was formed in 1752 from Chester, Lancaster, and Philadelphia counties.

Phil. Lorentz Hautz, Bethel, appeared on the 1767 tax list for Berks County, Pennsylvania with 150 acres, 2 horses, 4 cattle, 3 sheep, and "tax 10."
He has been confused with a nephew of the same name, b. 1740, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War in Captain John Stone's Sixth Company, Second Battalion, of the Lancaster County Militia, listed in the Eighth Class. (Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume VII, p. 180)
This nephew also appears on the Valley Forge rolls (number PA17430) as serving in Muhlenberg's Brigade, German Regiment.
Philip (b. 1713) qualifies as a patriot of the American Revolution because he paid a supply tax in Berks County in 1779 "for raising the supplies." He's listed in Bethel Township as owning 200 acress, 4 horses, 4 cattle, and taxed "3,200." (Pennsylvania Archives, Third Series, Vol. XVIII, p. 208) The DAR placed a flag at his grave. A member of the Sons of the American Revolution who claimed Philip Lorentz Hautz as his patriot ancestor for a supplemental membership was Larry Patrick Cornwell, 138085.
His will was written in German and dated May 17, 1787, at Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. It was probated on Dec 13, 1788. A copy of the English translation was filed with the will. The first page states, "Translation of sd Will of Philip Lorentz Hautz Decd. . ."
"Since old age has put me, Philip Lorentz Hautz, living in Bethel Township, Berks County, in mind of my departure out of this world into Eternity, so I have by healthy days and with due consideration, got my Testament and last Will wrote down how it shall be held after my departure out of this world to Eternity with me and my Heirs. I recommend my Soul in the hands of God, and my Body to the Earth, in hopes of happy resurrection.
"As touching my worldly Estate I will and order that my Widow during her life shall have the new house wherein we now dwell and also shall also have all power therein, further she shall have a right to take of all that grows in the garden, also of all fruit, apples, etc., also Potatoes, Turnips, etc., as much or many as she pleases and wants. The Possessor of the Plantation shall also give to her yearly, two Barrels of Cyder, fifteen gallon of whiskey, twelve Bushels of wheat and three bushels of Rye, eighty Pounds of Pork and forty Pounds of Beef; further she shall have a right to take the said Beef from any part of the whole where she pleases,
"She shall also have yearly ten Pound of good hatcheled flax, also ten # of hatcheled hemp, twenty Pounds of good flaxen tow, eight Pounds of good wool, two pair of new shoes, also hens and eggs as many as she pleases and wants; and to bring the grain in the Mill and the Meal thereof in the house; also good wood as much as she wants and made fit for the stove and bake-oven, delivered to the house.
"She shall also have a right to take a cow every half year and to have it in use, and put her milk in the spring house or cellar, and the cow shall summer and winter be fed with the other cows, though the cows shall be the owner's of the Place. Immediately after my Death shall be given my widow, fifty pounds in gold or silver and of all house furniture she shall take what she Pleases and Wants.
"Secondly, as touching my plantation whereon I now now dwell and my Widow her dwelling place has, so shall my son Wendel Hautz have the same together with the forty two acres and the mountain land for him and his Heirs (and Heirs) forever, for the sum of seven hundred and fifty Pounds gold or silver, say for seven hundred and fifty Pounds, whereby he shall also be bound to deliver to his mother, during her life the above reservations, but as touching the paying after deducting his inheritance.
"So shall my son Wendel pay to my Grand-Daughter Catherine Gunckel as soon as she is twenty one years old, eighty pounds in gold or silver and when my son Wendel has deducted as much inheritance as one of my other children has, then he shall pay five years after my Death, yearly seventy Pounds, among my other children, and of these seventy Pounds my son Wendel shall not Hand in share, but if my Widow should die before the said five years are expired, then my son Wendel shall begin five weeks after her death to pay the seventy Pounds in gold or silver.
"Further the one hundred pounds which I had lent to my son-in-law Leonard Gunckel, I will that the same one hundred Pounds, with the interest, my grand Daughter Catherine Gunckel shall have when she is twenty one years old and these one hundred and eighty Pounds the said Catherine Gunckel shall have of my estate and no more and receiving this money she shall give a release to my Estate.

"further it is my will that none of my children shall inherit anything until they have signed releases to my sons Baltzer and Wendel for the Law.
"Lastly, it is my will that no Body shall undertake to make or do anthing again this my last will, so that everything be rightly and duly executed, as it is with due care plainly wriote down according to my will. I ordain as Executors my son Christian Hautz and my son-in-law Samuel Royer, both living in Bethel Township, Berks Co., which was all done with sound mind, memory and due consideration and by me in presence of the bystanding witnesses. Philip Lorentz Hautz emigrated on the Friendship, commanded by Henry Beech, which sailed from Rotterdam, Holland and Dover, England. The Friendship landed at the port of Philadelphia on Sep 20, 1738. He settled in Bethel Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania near his brother Johann Philip, and sister Juliana Fusser, who had arrived eight years earlier on the ship Thistle. They lived the rest of their lives there, not far over the Berks-Lebanon County line from Hamlin.
Philip Lorentz Hautz was a farmer, miller, and distiller. He owned land on what is now Frederickburg, Pennsylvania.
Berks County was formed in 1752 from Chester, Lancaster, and Philadelphia counties.

The 1754 tax list of Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania lists "Lorentz Haucks" as a resident. Also listed was John Adam Walborn, the brother of Philip Lorentz Hautz' wife Eva.

Phil. Lorentz Hautz, Bethel, appeared on the 1767 tax list for Berks County, Pennsylvania with 150 acres, 2 horses, 4 cattle, 3 sheep, and "tax 10."
He has been confused with a nephew of the same name, b. 1740, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War in Captain John Stone's Sixth Company, Second Battalion, of the Lancaster County Militia, listed in the Eighth Class. (Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume VII, p. 180)
This nephew also appears on the Valley Forge rolls (number PA17430) as serving in Muhlenberg's Brigade, German Regiment.
Philip (b. 1713) qualifies as a patriot of the American Revolution because he paid a supply tax in Berks County in 1779 "for raising the supplies." He's listed in Bethel Township as owning 200 acress, 4 horses, 4 cattle, and taxed "3,200." (Pennsylvania Archives, Third Series, Vol. XVIII, p. 208) The DAR placed a flag at his grave. A member of the Sons of the American Revolution who claimed Philip Lorentz Hautz as his patriot ancestor for a supplemental membership was Larry Patrick Cornwell, 138085.
His will was written in German and dated May 17, 1787, at Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. It was probated on Dec 13, 1788. A copy of the English translation was filed with the will. The first page states, "Translation of sd Will of Philip Lorentz Hautz Decd. . ."
"Since old age has put me, Philip Lorentz Hautz, living in Bethel Township, Berks County, in mind of my departure out of this world into Eternity, so I have by healthy days and with due consideration, got my Testament and last Will wrote down how it shall be held after my departure out of this world to Eternity with me and my Heirs. I recommend my Soul in the hands of God, and my Body to the Earth, in hopes of happy resurrection.
"As touching my worldly Estate I will and order that my Widow during her life shall have the new house wherein we now dwell and also shall also have all power therein, further she shall have a right to take of all that grows in the garden, also of all fruit, apples, etc., also Potatoes, Turnips, etc., as much or many as she pleases and wants. The Possessor of the Plantation shall also give to her yearly, two Barrels of Cyder, fifteen gallon of whiskey, twelve Bushels of wheat and three bushels of Rye, eighty Pounds of Pork and forty Pounds of Beef; further she shall have a right to take the said Beef from any part of the whole where she pleases,
"She shall also have yearly ten Pound of good hatcheled flax, also ten # of hatcheled hemp, twenty Pounds of good flaxen tow, eight Pounds of good wool, two pair of new shoes, also hens and eggs as many as she pleases and wants; and to bring the grain in the Mill and the Meal thereof in the house; also good wood as much as she wants and made fit for the stove and bake-oven, delivered to the house.
"She shall also have a right to take a cow every half year and to have it in use, and put her milk in the spring house or cellar, and the cow shall summer and winter be fed with the other cows, though the cows shall be the owner's of the Place. Immediately after my Death shall be given my widow, fifty pounds in gold or silver and of all house furniture she shall take what she Pleases and Wants.
"Secondly, as touching my plantation whereon I now now dwell and my Widow her dwelling place has, so shall my son Wendel Hautz have the same together with the forty two acres and the mountain land for him and his Heirs (and Heirs) forever, for the sum of seven hundred and fifty Pounds gold or silver, say for seven hundred and fifty Pounds, whereby he shall also be bound to deliver to his mother, during her life the above reservations, but as touching the paying after deducting his inheritance.
"So shall my son Wendel pay to my Grand-Daughter Catherine Gunckel as soon as she is twenty one years old, eighty pounds in gold or silver and when my son Wendel has deducted as much inheritance as one of my other children has, then he shall pay five years after my Death, yearly seventy Pounds, among my other children, and of these seventy Pounds my son Wendel shall not Hand in share, but if my Widow should die before the said five years are expired, then my son Wendel shall begin five weeks after her death to pay the seventy Pounds in gold or silver.
"Further the one hundred pounds which I had lent to my son-in-law Leonard Gunckel, I will that the same one hundred Pounds, with the interest, my grand Daughter Catherine Gunckel shall have when she is twenty one years old and these one hundred and eighty Pounds the said Catherine Gunckel shall have of my estate and no more and receiving this money she shall give a release to my Estate.
"Further is my will that my son Christian Hautz for his first Birthright Immediately after my Decease the Sum of five Pounds, and then be in equal shares with my other children, further is my will that the Plantation in Pinegrove Township whereon my son Baltzer Hautz Lives, my son Baltzer shall have the same immediately after my Death for the sum of one hundred and fifty Pounds in gold or silver, to him and his Heirs (and Heirs) to do with the same according to their pleasure and shall have it in the same right and authority as I have it.
"further it is my will that none of my children shall inherit anything until they have signed releases to my sons Baltzer and Wendel for the Law.
"Lastly, it is my will that no Body shall undertake to make or do anthing again this my last will, so that everything be rightly and duly executed, as it is with due care plainly wriote down according to my will. I ordain as Executors my son Christian Hautz and my son-in-law Samuel Royer, both living in Bethel Township, Berks Co., which was all done with sound mind, memory and due consideration and by me in presence of the bystanding witnesses. Signed and sealed the seventeenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven in Bethel Township, Berks County. Philip Lorentz Hautz. Witnesses: John Kauffman Christian Battdorf A true Translation of the German Original"
The following was written in English at the bottom of the German will:
"Registers Office at Reading in Berks County Decer. 13nd 1788. Appeared John Kauffman & Christian Battorff subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will and on their solemn Affirmation did Severally Declare and say that they were Present Serverally and heard Philip Lorentz Hautz the Testator therein named acknowledge that he Signed Sealed pronounced publish and Declared the foregoing writing as his last will & testament and that at the time of Doing thereof he was of sound mind memory & understanding as they verily believe & that the names of said affirments by them respectively subscribed as witnesses is such his own proper hand writing. Done at the Request and in the prexence of Said Testator. (signed) Henry Christ, Register"
An "Inventory for the Estate of Lorentz Hautz deceased" was filed on Janr. 20th 1789:

An Indenture on file at the Berks County, Pennsylvania Court House identifies more of Philip's children:
"This Indenture made the twelfth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety. Between Christian Houtz and Barbarah his wife, Samuel Royer & Elizabeth his wife, Balzar Houtz and Elisabeth his wife all of the County of Berks, John Gunkle & Catherine his wife, Jacob Houtz and Annamarie his wife, John Houtz and Catherine his wife, of the County of Dauphin, Martinus Batarf and Barbara his wife of Washinton County all of the state of Pennsylvania of the one part, and Wendel Houtz of Bethel Township Berkes County and State of Pennslyvania yeoman of the other part. . .
(Line 23: "And Whereas the said Lawrence Houtz became ? and Possessed of the above mentioned 4 tracts of land died having first made his last Will and Testament in writing, bearing date the seventeenth day of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven and did therein and thereby among other things given and devised, do give and devise all the mentioned four Tracts of land unto his Son Wendle Houtz his Heirs and Assigns for ever for the sum of seven hundred and fifty Pounds in Gold or Silver Money of Pennsylvania wherein said Son Wendle shall pay for said land unto his Brothers and Sisters that is to pay Christian Houtz, Elizabeth the wife of Samuel Royer, Catherine the Wife of John Gunckle, Barbara the Wife of Martimus Batorff, John Houtz, Jacob Houtz, Baltzer Houtz as by the said Testament and last Will duly proved and remaining in the Registers Office in and for the County of Berks may more fully appear. Now this Indenture Witnesseth the said Christian Houtz and Barbara his wife, Samuel Royer & Elizabeth his wife, Baltzer Houtz and Elisabeth his wife, John Gunckle and Catherine his wife, Jacob Houtz and Anna Maria his wife, John Houtz and Catherine his wife, Martimus Batorff and Barbara his wife for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and four Pounds Gold or Silver Money of Pennsylvania . . ." He was buried in Klopps Churchyard, St. Paul's Union Church, Hamlin, Bethel Township, Berks County (now Lebanon County), Pennsylvania where his stone is still standing. The translation is: Here rest the bones of Phillip Lorentz Housz who died on the 22 day of October 1788 in his old age of 73 years 1 month and ? weeks.
