COLLIER, Nathaniel M. Jr., 88, of Petersburg, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Nathaniel M. Collier Sr. and Mettie Pulley Collier, the widower of, Laura Dance Collier. He was predeceased by two brothers, James E. Collier and Charles F. Collier; sisters, Grace O'Donnell, Catherine Hogwood, Sadie Brittingham, Elva McGee, Virginia Boisseau and Marie Martin; friends, Charlie Simmons, Herbert C. Gill Sr. and Billy Gill. He was a retired manager of Pittsburgh Paint and Glass in Petersburg. He was a lifelong member of Ettrick United Methodist Church, where he held many positions and served on many committees. He was a Past President of the Retail Merchants Association of Petersburg, a member of the Petersburg Kiwanis Club, the Saints and Sinners. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Ettrick American Legion Post #136. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Rachel Brockwell and husband, Ben of Matoaca, and Nathaniel M. (Mac) Collier III and wife, Lu Ann of Sutherland; four grandsons, Bruce Perkinson and wife, Celena, Nathaniel M. (Macon) Collier IV and fianc‚e, Melissa Spicer, Jason Brockwell and wife, Yelba, Phillip A. Collier and Lindsay LeGrand; two great-grandchildren, Brycen and Ava Perkinson; three nieces, Ellen Kirk of Atlanta, Georgia, Vickie Minetree of Colonial Heights and Frances C. Pulley of Matoaca; nephew, Donald Hogwood wife, Nonie of Prince George; and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Collier dearly loved his family and his Church! A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Bob Lamb and the Reverend Jimmy Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ettrick United Methodist Church, 21302 Chesterfield Avenue, Ettrick, Virginia 23803. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
