Lyman D. Shaw, 86, of 14 Heartland Drive, Bloomington, died at 6:55 a.m. Saturday (June 14, 2008) at his residence.
He was born Nov. 29, 1921, at Normal, son of Guy L. and Bessie Dillon Shaw. He married Jane Modesitt on May 28, 1950, at Shelbyville. She died Feb. 16, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Jill Shaw Hoover, West Branch, and Jennifer Shaw Marcucci, San Francisco, Calif.; three grandchildren, Adam (Mishell) Hoover, Carthage, Mo.; David (Natacha) Hoover, La Sarraz, Switzerland; and Ethan (Angie) Hoover, North Liberty, Iowa.; five great-grandchildren and one due in July; and a sister, Jean Shaw Roggy, Raytown, Mo.
His parents and one grandson preceded him in death.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served as an infantry officer in the European Theatre of operations.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, for more than 40 years, He also served as a deacon. In prior church memberships in other cities, he served as both a deacon and elder. He was a current member of the Young Men's Club in Bloomington and former member of Elks, Rotary International and Kiwanis.
He was a graduate of Normal Community High School and the University of Illinois College of Agriculture.
Mr. Shaw retired from Growmark Inc. in 1983, after 36 years of service, working the last 20 years as eastern Illinois regional manager.
Through their retirement years, Jane and Lyman traveled extensively with the Elderhostel program, visiting at least 20 locations in the United States, Europe and Asia.
