Mrs. Ella Scott Nelson, wife of the late Cleland Kinlock Nelson, died at her home in Lynchburg at 7 o'clock, yesterday morning. Mrs. Nelson was 84 years of age. She was a native of Wytheville, a daughter of the late Charles and Sally Adams Nelson. She attended private schools in Lynchburg and was a graduate of the school that is now Stuart Hall, Staunton. She was married to Mr. Nelson in 1872.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson lived for twenty years at Charlemont Lodge, this county, moving from there to Lynchburg. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Episcopal Church and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The following children survive: Mrs. Eugene Carter, Tallahassee, Florida; Mrs. Samuek McSween, Florence, S.C. Miss Helen Nelson and Charles E. Nelson, Lynchburg; Cleland K. Nelson and John F. Nelson, Charleston, W. Va.; Richard S. Nelson of Crewe; and Robert Nelson, of Atlanta, Ga. (ref: newspaper clipping, March 12, 1936)
Funeral of Mrs. Nelson
Funeral services for Mrs Ella Scott Nelson were conducted this morning at 11 o'clock at the home, 2843 Boosnboro Road, by Dr. Carlton Barnwell. Interment was in Spring Hill cemetery.
Flower bearers were Douglas A. Robertson, E. marshall Frost, Joe Ayers, Russell Moore, J. E Gordon, Tom Caldwell, Frank Caldwell, J. Kent Hall, Lavender A. Wallace, and Mitchell A. Strother.
Honorary pallbearer were Dr. W. B Thornhill, R. H.T.Adams, Frank Sears, Henry Satterwhile, J. A. McKenry, O. E. Engledove, Dr. Ernest Scott, C. S. Adams, D. D. Hull, James R. Gilliam, Jr., Giles H. Miller, John Victor, Jack Adams, Allen Cueullu, R. T. Watts, O. M. Bray, H. A. C. Walker, and R. J. Hurt.
Active pallbearers were A. W Scott, T. K.Scott, J. E. Adams, Robert Scott, Richard A. Harris and Holcomb C. Adams.
