Dale Lester Otto of Ellendale, Minn., volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In a school essay he wrote before joining up, he said, "My ancestors were part in the making of America and I will try to do my part in preserving this freedom that we take so much for granted. If I can do this much, I am sure that the sweat of my ancestors will not be in vain." Dale Otto died serving his country on May 14, 1967.
