|Birth: ||Nov. 17, 1914|
|Death: ||May 16, 2006|
Bill Cressman was born at Pine Ridge, CA. Bill was the last of 18 children born to Nellie Hall and Ammon N. Cressman, ten of whom survived.
Bill has peacefully taken the Lord's hand.
He was a lifelong resident of Fresno County and a graduate of Central Union High School.
Bill was preceded in death by Katie, his loving wife of 61 years; as well as each of his brothers and sisters.
Bill, his brothers, sisters, and daughter Billie, received their early education at the kindergarten through eighth grade one room Pine Ridge School built on land donated by Ammon Cressman to the County of Fresno expressly for that purpose.
Bill would serve as head of the school board from the mid 1940's and as trustee during the 1960's.
Following their wedding in 1936, Bill and Katie went to live and help Ammon and Nellie at Cressman's Store and orchards - an early 20th Century rest stop en route to Shaver Lake, Big Creek and the surrounding lumber mills.
The Saturday night dance at Shaver Lake or a day fishing at Rush Creek was a welcome break to the long days of the week.
Billie and Larry joined Bill and Katie in 1937 and 1939, and Barbara came along in 1947.
The family moved to Fresno in 1945, where Bill worked as a truck driver for Huntington Stage Lines before signing on with SantaFe Transportation as a long haul driver in 1949. Bill retired from Santa Fe in 1969.
Bill, Katie and Barbara moved back to the mountains in 1958. They built their new home on Peterson Road, not too far down Highway 168 from Cressman's Store. There, Bill and Katie would happily live out their lives. Bill Cressman always had a ready smile and a "Howdy" to all he encountered. His was a helping hand for anyone stuck in the mud or otherwise needing assistance.
Bill is survived by his children and their spouses, Billie and Randall Dickey, Larry and Shirley Cressman and Barbara and Robert Piacentini; granddaughters, Michelle Meleski and her husband Jerry and Kelly Stoltenberg and her husband Brad; and great-grandchildren, Alyse and Joshua Meleski and Kelsey and Melissa Stoltenberg.
Bill is also survived by nieces, Mary Ann Oge, Diane Baley Rolen and Jody Simpson Everett; nephews, Tom, Gary and Dennis Cressman and their mother Abbie, widow of Bill's older brother, George Cressman of Portland and Orchard, WA.
A Funeral Service will be held in Bill's memory at Boice Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Academy Cemetery in Clovis, CA.
