"ELBERT S. WOLFE

E. S. Wolfe, resident of this city for the past sixteen years, passed out this life at his home Tuesday morning at 2 o'clock, after being confined to his bed for but a few days, of old age and general breakdown, combined with organic trouble. His many friends will learn of his passing with surpise as but Wednesday of last week he was about our streets attending to his usual duties.

Mr. Wolfe had an exceptionally large circle of friends here, who were attraced to him on account of his upright, Christian spirit and fair dealing with all. He was beloved by all, and we will miss his cheery greeting as we go about our accustomed tasks.

Elbert S. Wolfe was born in North Carolina September 7, 1844, and grew to manhood in that state. He was a young man at the outbreak of the Civil War, and enlisted in the second North Carolina regiment and served throughout the great conflict, receiving his honorable discharge at the close. Returning to his home after the war he was married in 1867 to Miss Mary M. Livingstone, who survives him. To this union was born thirteen children, ten of whom lived to maturity. Nine children survive their father. They are Mrs. Geo. F. Eisenbrand of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. C. W. Forney of Daykin, Nebr.; Chas. H. Wolfe of Syracuse, Nebr.; Mrs. D. Bessmer of Portland, Ore.; C. C. Wolfe of Cortland, Nebr.; Rev. R. L. Wolfe of Seattle; O. S. Wolfe of Bremerton, and Birdina Wolfe of Kent.

Thirty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe moved with their family to Syracuse, Nebraska, and engaged in farming. Their farm was one of the show places of the country and Mr. Wolfe had great success in this endeavor. Sixteen years ago the family came to Kent and purchased the fine home in the southeastern part of the city, where they have since resided.

Mr. Wolfe joined the church early in life and was always an earnest Christian. Several years ago he professed to the Christian Science belief, and has since been one of the ablest workers in the society here.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Chittenden chapel tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock, by Mrs. R. L. Lamb."
