Memphis Daily Appeal
August 21 1863

The announcement is made of the death of Col. Robt. A Heart (sic), who, it will be remembered was an attache of the Gayoso bank before the war. In may 1861, he enlisted in Capt. Armstrong's company, of which he was chosen second lieutenant. After the battle of Belmont, in which he participated, he was chosen first lieutenant. He was also in the battles of Shiloh and Prairie Grove. Subsequently he was inspector general on Gen. Hindman's staff; then colonel of an Arkansas regiment, raised through his own exertions. At Helene, on the 4th of July, he was wounded and captured, and, on being taken to Memphis, was placed first in the hospital, and afterward removed to the residence of Col. Selden, where he died. He was buried with Masonic honors, of which fraternally he was a zealous and active member.
