The funeral of the late Judge George Dixon occurred near noon to-day from Holst's, on Main Street. The remains reached here from Pennsylvania on yesterday. Mr. Dixon went to Pennsylvania recently on professional business for a land company here. While stopping at a public house he was taken suddenly ill and died within a few hours. A post mortem held over the remains disclosed the fact that an affection of the heart was the cause of his sudden demise. The widow of the deceased, from whom he was separated some years since, is at present engaged at teaching school in Kentucky. The late Judge occupied an office on Poplar street, near Main.
Elmwood records indicate he was 65 years of age. Date of interment was December 19, 1883.
His parents were Henry Hal Dixon and and Mary Johnston of Kentucky.
George Dixon is listed in the Kentucky 1850 Census living with his wife Sally Hardin. They are residing in her parents home in Bardstown Kentucky.
George Dixon appears in the 1860 Census for Memphis living with Maria Dixon, age 35 and Hart Dixon, age 18. Hart is his half brother.
In the 1870 Census George is listed as an attorney with real estate valued at $100,000 and other property at $25,000. Other family include:

His second wife was a Miss Helm, a near relative of Gov. Helm.
He served in the CSA and was given a presidential pardon on July 5, 1865. He was a judge of the Common Law and Chancery Court of the City of Memphis.
