Erected by the citizens of Lexington in 1799, the monument is to the memory of those who fell in the Revolutionary War Battle of Lexington, April 19, 1775. The remains are buried within the railing in the front of the monument. It's the oldest public monument in the United States. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
