Son of Rowland & Milly {Smith} Gooch; Married Isabella Riley on February 22, 1828 in Wake County, NC. Federal census records (1850 & 1860) show they had 12 children at the time of his death. It appears Isabella then took several of the children and moved to Florence, Alabama. She is shown living in Florence at the time of the 1860 federal census, as a widow with several of their minor children.
The 12 known children are: James John Gooch; Redden Burden 'Red' Gooch; Caswell Gooch; Robert Hester Daniel Gooch; Mary Gooch; Wiley Humphrey Gooch Sr; Eliza Jane Gooch; William Henry Clay Gooch Jr; Susan Isabella Gooch; Sarah Francis 'Fannie' Gooch; Elizabeth 'Bettie' Gooch; and Roland Hooker Gooch. Where grave memorials exist for some of these children, I've requested the memorial manager to connect them with their parents, William & Isabella Gooch.
